The first time I went to Kings Island amusement park outside of Cincinnati, I must have been about eleven years old. I remember very clearly how excited I was to ride the legendary roller coaster, The Beast. In fact, I was so excited that I couldn't eat breakfast at the hotel with my family that morning. If I had even tried to eat something, I would have been sick. Someday, I want to be that excited again.

Music I've been enjoying lately: Death Cab For Cutie, Angels and Airwaves, and Snow Patrol.
I don't know much about Death Cab, but I know I like the sound of the song Where Soul Meets Body.
Angels and Airwaves is a great new band by ex-Blink 182 guitarist Tom DeLonge. I went to their very first concert about a month ago. The album theme and website are really cool, especially since they use vintage war planes in the imagery. Wait a minute...Tom DeLonge ripped off P51!!!
My roommates and I are going to a Snow Patrol concert next week. I borrowed their albums from John and I recognized a couple songs and enjoyed them all. The lyrics of the song Hands Open seem to connect with me. Not so much in the sense that the words identify with my current life, but rather they speak of some ideal in the near future which the song almost seems to bring closer. Actually, it's more accurate to say that it does identify with my current life; I'm just trying to ignore it. Strange, I know, since I usually pay no mind to lyrics and just feel the music. Hands Open by Snow Patrol
It's hard to argue when
You won't stop making sense
But my tongue still misbehaves and it
Keeps digging my own grave with my
Hands open, and my eyes open
I just keep hoping
That your heart opens
Why would I sabotage
The best thing that I have
Well, it makes it easier to know
Exactly what I want with my
Hands open and my eyes open
I just keep hoping
That your heart opens
It's not as easy as willing it all to be right
Gotta be more than hoping it's right
I wanna hear you laugh like you really mean it
Collapse into me, tired with joy
Put Sufjan Stevens on
And we'll play your favorite song
Chicago bursts to life and your
Sweet smile remembers you, my
Hands open, and my eyes open
I just keep hoping
That your heart opens
The other day I saw a link to this product on Amazon. The idea is to freeze the liquid inside the blue plastic and then place it over a fan. At first glance, this looks like a clever invention useful for cooling your house on a warm summer afternoon. However, this is not case.

True, the air in the room is cooled by convection when the fan pushes it past the ice. However, to make the ice, a nearby refrigerator will likely be used to transfer heat out of the water. This heat is expelled by the refrigerator back into the room. Assuming a perfectly efficient refrigerator, all this "cooling" device does is move heat around, not eliminate it. Of course, we all know that the second law of thermodynamics does not allow for the possibility of a perfectly efficient refrigerator, so we must conclude that the fridge must expel more heat to the room than simply that which is removed from the ice. Also, consider the added heating of the air due to the turbulence introduced by a fan. So, all things considered, this device will actually warm its environment.
Still, the moron that designed this thing is making a profit. That's more than I'm doing with any of my ideas. In fact, the inventor might even know it doesn't work but is just counting on a scientifically ignorant market to buy it. Clever, though not very honorable. Maybe I should oome up with some good ideas and try to sell them. I really hate business, though.
