Sunday night, I went to see Little Miss Sunshine. Good movie. Very funny, though slightly dark. Also, the scenes with the child beauty pageants were really creepy. I was hoping to see my town, Redondo Beach, since that was where the characters were headed in the movie. However, when they got there, it definitely wasn't Redondo, but rather some other place (probably in Orange County). Disappointing.

Ever since seeing War of the Worlds I've been haunted by the images of those tripods. Especially when I'm outside, I envision the towering robots striding into view over the tree line to hunt down their doomed human targets. Scary stuff. Quite enjoyable to think of it actually happening.
Don't get me wrong, I thought the movie was terrible. It was a perfectly horrible addition to the growing list of Spielberg’s other sci-fi disasters such as The Lost World: Jurassic Park and AI. Complete garbage, no doubt about it. However, the superb cinematography did provide some satisfyingly savorable images of terror.

Batman Begins is easily the best of the Batman films. I waited long for this installment, hoping it would attain to the great potential promised, but not delivered, by its predecessors. I was not disappointed.
If you've seen the previews, then you might already know that this film is less about a man in a bat suit and more about what motivates a man to achieve his ideals. Make no mistake, there is plenty of action (also better than the any of the other movies), but it strikes a fine tuned balance with character development that was all but absent in the previous films. I especially enjoyed seeing Alfred play a larger role.
Also, I should note that the writers did an excellent job creating a plausible explanation for the emergence of the fantastic villains to come. No spoilers here; go see the movie.
I just wonder if they'll end the series here or make more films. After Batman and Robin I said, "enough is enough," but now that they know what they're doing I wouldn't mind seeing more.
How'd you like my first movie review?

The Shawshank Redemption is the greatest movie, ever. I've known this for a while now, but just felt the need to say it again.
Riding my bike tonight, I caught the aroma of Dunkin' Doughnuts a few blocks away. Too bad I don't have a car, else I could go to the 24 hour drive-up window. No tasty treat for Brian.
Thursday night was the Navigators' Love At First Sight evening. That's the one night each year that we go out on campus and evangelize random strangers. Personally, I believe there are more effective ways to tell people about God's wonderful gift of His Son, but I agreed to do this because the idea scared me silly. Allow me an explanation.
First, I realized that the reason I don't want to do this (along with the reasons I don't want to pray, read my bible, or wake up early for church) is because the devil doesn't want me to do these things and thus grow in my relationship with God. So, I've started to make a point of doing spiritually challenging things just to strengthen myself and to spite the devil. Devil spite - that's some good spite. Second, I realize that doing this will bring confidence in other things such as giving a presentation at work, etc. Third, doing scary things is fun because it makes life a whole lot less boring. May I never be comfortable in my walk with God!
Sadly, the least important reason was to tell people about Jesus. Yes, I understand the focus of evangelism is supposed to be the person you're talking to, but I confess this was not the case for me. In any case, Philipians 1:18 applies. I'll just return to telling people about Jesus in my own way, but I'm glad I did this, too. I should add that some good did come of it. Matt and I had an awesome hour-long conversation with a couple guys outside a coffee shop. They didn't accept Jesus or anything, but we got them thinking about some things. Come to think of it, it wasn't scary at all. Maybe I should try something else. Hmm, I think it's time for a ride on a roller coaster. Yeah, a lap on the The Boss should do it, that contraption always makes me pee my pants.

Hello, I just returned from watching Napoleon Dynamite. Wow. That's about all I can say. It is devoid of plot, completely non-sensical, and absolutely wonderful. I laughed so hard my face hurts. Go see it. Take your friends. Have a jolly time!
Also, have you told your toaster, "I love you," lately? Give it a bath. Toasters like to bathe.

I saw Hidalgo last night. An excellent movie! I really didn't know what to expect since I'd only seen the preview once, but I was most impressed. Lots of horses. Lots of action. Go see it.
